  1. Civil motions are heard every other Monday at 1:00 p.m.
    Criminal motions are heard on Mondays at 11:00 a.m.
    (If Monday is a holiday, the next motion date is the Tuesday following the holiday.)
    It is not necessary to clear a motion date with the court clerk prior to filing the motion.


  2. Discovery disputes are to be scheduled by conference call before the district judge by contacting the judge's secretary at 213-894-2600. No discovery motions are to be filed.


  3. Tentative rulings are NOT issued.


  4. Mandatory chambers copies are discouraged unless the hearing is set for the next day following the date the document is filed, in which case a Mandatory chambers copy is to be delivered to chambers.

    Mandatory chambers copies of e-filed documents shall be delivered to chambers.


  5. Procedures for filing an ex parte application: Ex parte applications are to be filed in the Clerk's Office. You will be contacted either of the court's ruling or of a hearing set by the Court.


  6. To request a continuance of any scheduled court proceeding: Submit a written Stipulation (with a reason for the continuance) and a Proposed Order, or submit an Ex Parte Application if the continuance is not stipulated to.


  7. Counsel are allowed to contact the judge's law clerk or secretary for procedural matters and conference calls only.


  8. Inquiries regarding the status of a motion, stipulation or proposed order: Leave a telephone message for the court clerk. If an extra conforming copy of a stipulation or proposed order has not been submitted, please check the docket sheet.


  9. Calendar conflicts: Contact the court clerk.


  10. Procedures for bringing electronic equipment into the courtroom: Must get prior approval by the judge.


  11. Questions regarding law clerk/extern positions are to be made to the judge's chambers staff.
