- Civil motions are heard on Mondays at 9:30 a.m.
Criminal motions are heard on Mondays at 1:30 p.m.
(If Monday is a holiday, next motion date is the following Monday.)
It is not necessary to clear a motion date with the court clerk prior to filing a motion.
- Discovery motions are to be calendared before the magistrate judge.
- Written tentative rulings are not issued in most cases. The tentative will be stated from the bench at the hearing.
- A mandatory chambers copy of ALL e-filed documents is to be delivered to chambers (Room 730) in the Roybal Courthouse and placed in the courtesy copy box located on the 7th floor outside the entry door to chambers not later than 12:00 noon the day following e-filing.
- Procedures for filing an ex parte application: Follow Local Rule 7.19. An appearance is generally not required. Proof of service and declaration of notification are necessary for acceptance of papers.
- A request to continue any scheduled civil court proceeding must be made in writing at least one week in advance.
- A continuance of any criminal court proceedings will require the appearance of the parties and will not be granted on the papers, even if the parties stipulate to the continuance.
- Counsel are not allowed to contact the judge's law clerk or secretary unless responding to a contact they initiated.
- Inquiries regarding the status of a motion, stipulation or proposed order are not available by telephone. Follow Local Rule 11-4.5.
- Calendar conflicts: (Procedures for attorneys to follow if they have a calendar conflict) Fax to the clerk at least 3 days in advance. Court will start on time and there will be
no second call.
- Procedures for bringing electronic equipment into the courtroom:
Submit a written order with description (including serial number) at least one week in advance.

- Questions regarding law clerk/extern positions shall be addressed to the judge’s secretary.

Procedures for obtaining the services of an interpreter on a civil case:
Counsel are responsible for retaining the services of a certified interpreter through any appropriate source. |
