WESTERN DIVISION SUBSISTENCE INFORMATION Because you live over 80 miles (one-way) from the District Court you are entitled to a subsistence fee to cover the cost of lodging and meals. This Court uses an Automated Information System which issues a courtesy reminder call to jurors who are scheduled to serve. This reminder call will be placed to every qualified juror. You are to call the Automated Information System for reporting instructions. Please call (800) 327-3296 on Monday morning, after 11:00 A.M. to determine if you are required to report on Tuesday. Do not call after 7:00 P.M. as indicated by the reminder call. Most jurors who live over 80 miles from the courthouse only report twice during their availability period. You are to travel the day before your summons date and check into a hotel. On your initial report date you are to report to the Jury Assembly room at 7:45 A.M. Rooms are subject to availability. Make your own reservation and ask for the government rate. Current subsistence fee is $192.00 and is regulated by the Administrative Office of the United States Court. Come prepared to stay at least 4 days. If not selected as a juror, you will be excused at the end of the day. You will then follow the instructions provided for the remainder of your service. Check out of your room in the morning before you report for jury service, advise the hotel clerk that you are on Federal Jury Service and do not know if you will be selected to hear a case, then make arrangements to insure that the room will be available if your stay is prolonged. Be prepared to pay the hotel bill. Prospective jurors who are impaneled and reporting the next day are entitled to a subsistence fee and will receive a check approximately one week after their appearance. Hotel receipts are required.
