Position Overview: 

The United States District Court for the Central District of California was established in the year 1966 and serves nearly 20 million citizens. The District is composed of three divisions: Western (Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura Counties), Eastern (Riverside and San Bernardino Counties), and Southern (Orange County). The mission of the United States District Court Clerk’s Office is:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Court as the Information Technology (IT) Supervisor, where development and roll out of cutting-edge technology is a priority. The IT Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the Court’s IT Department, acquisition of new hardware and software platforms, and coordination of technology initiatives. The IT Supervisor is also expected to mentor and support IT staff. The IT Supervisor’s office is located in Los Angeles, California with required travel to the divisional offices as well as other locations for purposes of support, training and business meetings.  This position reports to the IT Director. 

The successful applicant will leverage technology to further the mission of the Court; work well in a team-centered environment; be committed to employee development and process improvement while fostering and providing the highest level of customer service to all judicial and Clerk’s Office staff, the bar, and the public; and have experience leading and motivating teams possessing a diverse set of technical skills and abilities.

Representative Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing support to judges’ chambers and Clerk’s Office staff in the areas of information technology end-user support, needs analysis and training.
  • Ensuring the successful operation of court provided equipment including:  computers, mobile devices, cellular phones, audio visual systems, and voice/data networks.
  • Assisting the IT Director with the development and execution of short and long-term technology improvement plans.
  • Assists in developing and updating department and Court IT policies and procedures.
  • Assisting in the development, implementation and practiced execution of the Court’s Continuity of Operations (COOP) and Disaster Recovery Plans.
  • Assume responsibility for the day-to-day oversight of inventory and accountability of all IT equipment.
  • Ensuring the timely, and accurate completion of technology initiatives.
  • Supervising IT personnel across the district which includes five, geographically dispersed buildings.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Thorough working knowledge of the theories, principles and best practices of desktop computer and mobile device hardware and software, data communications and networking components and information technology security.
  • Extensive project, personnel, and vendor management experience.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment and a knowledge of the basic concepts, principles, and theories of management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess excellent leadership qualities which include the ability to collaborate and work effectively with chambers and court staff, the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, and other agencies.
  • Self-motivated, result-driven, detail-oriented, and organized.
  • Proficient experience with computer hardware, software, operating systems, mobile devices, LAN/WAN, communications, video-conferencing technology, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), and audio visual systems.
  • Five years of progressively responsible IT related experience including:
    1. Two years of specialized experience, at least one year equivalent to work at the CL 27 level to qualify for CL 28.
    2. Two years of specialized experience, including at least one year equivalent to work at the CL 28 to qualify for the CL 29.
Physical Requirements: 

Work is performed in an office setting within the district.  Occasional travel to other divisional offices and out-of-district locations may be required.  The ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
