Ralph Zarefsky was appointed as a Magistrate Judge in 1997, and served as Chief Magistrate Judge from 2006 to 2007. Prior to his appointment, he practiced law in Los Angeles with McCutchen, Black, Verleger & Shea and its successor, Baker & Hostetler, concentrating in complex civil litigation, including securities, antitrust, consumer protection, real estate and international disputes. Before entering practice he served for two years as the law clerk to the Honorable Lawrence T. Lydick, U. S. District Court, Central District of California. Prior to practicing law, he taught American history in high school.
Judge Zarefsky received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, and his law degree from Stanford Law School.
