Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version
For cases assigned to a judge who is no longer active or has retired from the Court, filers should continue to file all documents using the same case number and inactive or retired judge's initials.

Any hearing date should be set pursuant to established procedures and rules governing motion hearings and the required notice period.

Required proposed orders in MS Word (.doc/.docx) or WordPerfect (.wpd) format should be submitted using the "Proposed Orders to Chambers and Clerk's Office" feature under the Utilities menu in CM/ECF. Select "Inactive/Retired District Judges" as the Judge. Further, proposed orders must also be sent by email to CRD_Retired@cacd.uscourts.gov

All filings will be routed appropriately and may or may not result in the reassignment of a case to another judge. If a case is reassigned to another judge, filers must use the new judge’s initials in all future filings.

Pursuant to Local Rule 5-4.5, one mandatory chambers copy of all filed documents shall be delivered to and placed in the inactive/visiting judges courtesy box, located outside the Clerk's Office, on the 4th floor, by 12:00 p.m. on the first court date after the filing date. All chambers copies of exhibits, declarations, etc. must be tabbed, where applicable, blue-backed, and two-hole punched at the top. Chambers copies may also be sent by mail/overnight courier, to be received by 12:00 p.m. the following business day of filing.

Chambers copies of under seal documents shall all be placed together in a manila envelope labeled "UNDER SEAL", and each under seal document shall include its own title page in accordance with the Rules.
