Passing of John R. "Jack" Kronenberg, Former U.S. Magistrate Judge for Central District of California

The United States District Court, Central District of California, mourns the loss of former magistrate judge John R. “Jack” Kronenberg, who passed away on Friday, March 11, 2011, at the age of 87. He was appointed as a United States magistrate judge for the Central District of California on April 23, 1973, and sat in the Court’s Western Division in downtown Los Angeles until he retired on July 14, 1992. He was recalled on June 6, 1994, and provided further assistance to the district as a recalled magistrate judge until March 17, 1995. Prior to his appointment as a magistrate judge, he served as a public defender with the County of Los Angeles for 15 years.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, John Kronenberg (Charissa), Karl Kronenberg (Nan), and Katy Penna (Jerome); seven grandchildren; sister, Maryann Oeffling (Don); and brother, George Kronenberg (Mary).

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery’s Risen Christ Chapel in Culver City.
