Judge Alexander F. MacKinnon

Alexander F. MacKinnon was appointed as a United States Magistrate Judge in 2015.  Prior to his appointment, Judge MacKinnon was a partner at the firm of Kirkland & Ellis, where he worked for over 30 years as a trial lawyer.  His practice focused on intellectual property cases, but also included antitrust, securities, product liability, and environmental matters in state and federal courts across the country.   After graduation from law school, Judge MacKinnon clerked for the Honorable Albert J. Engel, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Judge MacKinnon received his undergraduate engineering degree and his law degree from the University of Michigan.
