FRAUDULENT PHONE SCAM ALERT

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

The United States District for the Central District of California is aware of an ongoing telephonic scam targeting residents within the district.

Individuals posing as law enforcement officers or court officers are contacting members of the public to solicit personal information or demand payment for fines or fees. Scammers often claim that an order has been issued by a judge of this Court, and to appear legitimate, they cite specific names of Judges of this Court and claim that a formal court order has been issued for the victim’s arrest.

Please be aware that all legitimate Court orders are sent via the U.S. Mail, and are not communicated to the recipient over the phone. The Court does not notify individuals of warrants or fines over the phone.

If you receive a Court-related communication that you believe to be fraudulent or questionable, please contact your local law enforcement agency and report it to FTC.gov.
