Relocation for Booking New Arrestees/Defendants
Effective April 19, 2021, the lockup area at the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building and Courthouse (“Roybal Courthouse”) will be undergoing construction and will not be available for the booking of new arrestees or summoned defendants with the United States Marshals Service. New arrestees or summoned defendants shall be brought to the First Street Courthouse lockup for booking. Arresting agents should e-mail the Report Commencing Criminal Action to criminal intake at CrimIntakeCourtDocs-LA@cacd.uscourts.gov or submit it to criminal intake at the Roybal Courthouse. Initial appearances will continue to be conducted in duty courtroom 880 at the Roybal Courthouse. New arrestees/defendants who consent to proceed by video conference will appear by video from the First Street Courthouse lockup. The United States Marshals Service will transport new arrestees/defendants who do not consent to video conference to duty courtroom 880. Attorneys representing new arrestees/defendants will continue to receive instructions provided by criminal intake to contact the new arrestee/defendant by video or telephone at the First Street Courthouse lockup area.
