Honorable Kenly Kiya Kato

Kenly Kiya Kato was appointed as a United States Magistrate Judge in 2014. Prior to her appointment, Judge Kato maintained a private practice handling federal criminal defense, civil rights, and employment matters. She previously served as a Deputy Federal Public Defender and law clerk to the late Honorable Robert M. Takasugi in the Central District of California.
Judge Kato received her B.A. in Political Science from the University of California at Los Angeles, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, and her J.D. from Harvard Law School, graduating cum laude.
